Enter The Dark Music Matrix : We Are all Cyber Punks and DaeMoNz
There are a lot of DJ folks in the goth and related scenes. Are you a DJ? What do you play? What kind of equipment do you use? Where do you usually spin? Any goals? Introduce yourself!
Hello everyone. My name is Tim and I am in the Lancaster PA area. (Originally from Los Angeles) I am involved in music in many ways. But relating to DJing – I am avid physical collector with over 20,000 vinyl, cds and tapes. I have been DJing for over 35 years now. I like to play lounges, bars and restaurants where I can help the atmosphere. The occasional club works well too. Picture this: You go into a club or bar and you may or may not like the main room DJ. You decide to drift into the second room because the main floor is way too loud and obnoxious. There you will find me playing some eclectic and deep cuts in whatever style that fits the ambience and the themed night. I am like a walking encyclopedia in the music styles that I have followed. I am always looking for somewhere to play occasionally or regularly. ****Contact me for details**** I currently play with an occasional quarterly event called Sanctuary which does new wave, goth and industrial.
I like to play vinyl. I do and can play cds and some digital setups.
Main styles I do:
– Chill out music – deep cuts.
– Underground new wave, nu romantic, synth pop, EBM, New Beat, industrial, goth rock, coldwave and darkwave – Thats a lot of styles right? Well, there is a lot of great music in them!
– techno, house, electro, proper trance.
– ambient – berlin school, field recording, prog ambient, space music, soundtrack etc
Hello, Im Khryst Lords, aka AD VITAM, music lover from Portugal and retired DJ. Getting near my 50’s…
My journey in music began in the late ’90s in Bristol, UK, where I first started DJing and soon after, I became involved with Bristol and London alternative creatures of the night, performing in UK, Spain and Germany. What began as an eclectic hobby quickly grew into a vinyl collecting work related job, had to catch them all! At least the Fischerspooners, Black Strobes, Codec & Flexors, Miss kittins, .. the good electronic stuff.
As a DJ, i used to end up in very strange venues and basements… they ware called Dungeons back then… Always been drawn to playing strange Tracks before their time, with a Erotic dark meaning to it, and that makes my trademark, dark underground, kinky venues, invite only, kind of party.
in 2005 i co-founded the London Goth Artists, United, an event collective that was in charge of private parties, mostly linked to the Bondage Scene and Erotic Performance Clubs
In 2022 I joined a few DJ Friends, music ppl and barmaids to open the Bauhaus Club Records, our independent geriatric label to archive our music from the grey hair patrol. You know who you are… 😀
While I’ve since stepped away from nightlife, sold of all my gear during covid, im still alive. Today, i mostly remix music i enjoy from back then, just for the fun, with out leather and chains stuck at my decks… And i fish allot…
My biggest thrill, back then?? Stepping away from the booth after my set without collecting a paycheck, or leaving any contact. On foot to a near beach of empty field looking at the stars at 4-5 am, that was my best nights… the calm after the noise…
if i was to DJ these days?… No.. i would need a chair.. but no… my spine says no…
My Styles? Anything you can imagine to be played at a strip club with chains and latex strips at its walls… but i also play Electroclash and pure old school Techno (old 90s techno)
If i get invited to DJ to a live floor for 4 to 6 hours, do i accept it?… im looking at fishing spots and retirement homes, let me be… but 1 hour, online streaming radio that can be arranged.
Here are some of my latest remixes.
DJ Rush – The Family 2003 (Ad Vitam Rework)
Droids – The Force 1977 (Ad Vitam 2025 Rework)
And hope to see whats going on there in the Dark World these days.
Heya, DJ Refugium from Ghost House in Eugene, Oregon, USA here. I and two others started Ghost House 15 years ago because there wasn’t a goth night. Learned to DJ quickly and under duress and now I’ll never stop. I learned on vinyl (and still have a stupid amount of goth vinyl) but now it’s a Mac and a Denon MC5000 Serato controller. Much easier to haul around and lets me keep doing gigs. I really love seeing live music and one of my reasons for being on this site is to keep a running journal of live shows. My spouse is a bassist in 3 bands of various dark flavors so it’s quite possible for me to tag along and see memorable things like the <PIG> soundcheck where they played Juke Joint Jezebel to an empty house. A whole lot of my vinyl collection has been purchased at shows and is signed by the artists because I’m also a wonky fangirl.
Cheers from the crypt!
Hell-oh! I’m eEL, a full-time Website Project Manager, Graphic Designer, and DJ hailing from the depths of Baltimore.
I’ve been an artist my entire life, but working as a professional since the early 90s (GenX folks UNITE!). Throughout my career, I’ve worked on many large projects with well-known companies and organizations. Most notably for this community, I worked with Skinny Puppy for a decade when they reunited and needed an online presence—something that hadn’t existed in 1992 when they first parted ways. I created various items for them and their multiple side projects online and off, but the most visible was their website, located at skinnypuppy.com, which I had designed from scratch and maintained from 2007 to 2018. I still help admin their official Facebook Group, but things started settling even before their final tour. Regardless, you can still find me creating websites and designs for various DJs, bands, and clubs in the area outside of my regular 9-to-5 Website PM duties.
Recently, I decided to restart a hobby I haven’t pursued since the mid-90s — DJing. Currently, I’m one of the resident DJs for Cryptic: A Goth Night, which took the place of everyone’s favorite goth night, Batz Over Baltimore, when DJ Cerebrus decided it was time to hang up the headphones and retire. Alongside my partner, DJ Day Star, we spin all the old and recent goth, death rock, darkwave, synthpop, and industrial. Although my heart lives with industrial, power noise, witch house, and EBM (terror or not). I’ve been slowly filtering in the hard and heavy genres and playing at other venues, trying to find more fans of the dark. I also have a random night from time to time, called Sonic Disorder, where I only play old-school punk rock, which is super fun!
The equipment I use is fairly straightforward: MacBook, Traktor Kontrol S3, and the Traktor Kontrol X1 MK1 for some added efx.
My goal is to support the community and bring as many darklings and baby bats into the fold as possible. To keep the scene alive and remind everyone where it came from! Any $$ raised from my hobby goes right back into it. That means everything from buying (or fixing!) gear or supporting the bands and artists. It’s my “raison d’être” to keep a spotlight on the dark.
If any venues or events are looking to book a goth/industrial (or punk!) DJ, please feel free to contact me. I’m always looking for more places to spin!
